turn windows into doors for one-of-a-kind cabinets!
Old windows can be added to the front side of bookshelves and open cabinets to create interesting doors for a new, enclosed look.  Pick up old single pane windows at salvage stores, flea markets, garage sales, etc.
Search for windows to fit whatever size bookshelf or cabinet you are working with. (Or, BUILD a shelf to fit the size of your window!) Determine whether you want to use one window for a single door, or two to create a double door look for the front of your cabinet.
If the walls of your bookshelf are not sturdy enough to support the weight of the window(s), you may need to beef it up by face framing it.   Simply create a frame  out of 1x3‘s to attach to the front of your bookshelf, so you have something more substantial to secure your hinges to.

If your bookshelf is open on the backside, cut a piece of 1/8” - 1/4” plywood to screw to the back. Determine how you want your door to swing open to figure hinge placement.  Evenly space cabinet door hinges on window and screw into place.  Then attach hinged door to bookshelf. Add magnetic closure so doors latch tightly and door handles, if desired.
